Leopard Gecko Quick Facts
The Leopard Gecko is a fairly chill type of gecko that is known to smile when content. They can become fairly tame with a gentle and patient hand. The only real downside to this gecko is that they can drop their tail if handled too roughly or if they become too stressed.
A 20 Gallon Long Tank or 2.5 sqft is the minimum amount of floor space. Height is not important for Leopard Geckos as they are primarily ground dwellers. Items put in their terrarium shouldn’t be higher than their body (nose tip to base of tail) is long as they are prone to falling off things because they do not have sticky pad feet.
Floor heat from a heat mat is best for leopard geckos because it helps with healthy digestion. The heat mat should only span 1/3 of the floor of the terrarium so they can thermoregulate themselves.
Paper Towels, Shelf Liner, or Naturalistic Dirt. Sand or Calci-Sand is not a safe substrate for them as it will eventually cause impaction from them eating it. They explore their world by licking things, they use their tongue isn some cases like we use our hands.
A minimum of 3 hiding place is required. A hide that is placed on the hot side (the hot hide). A hide that is placed on the cold side (the cold hide). And hide that is placed in the middle with a damp paper towel in it (humid hide). While 3 is the minimum Leopard Geckos will always appreciate as many as you can comfortably fit in their home.
Live Insects: Mealworms, Dubia Roaches, Crickets, Silkworms, and Black Soldier Fly Larvae
Live Insects: Hornworms, Super worms, Butter worms, and Wax worms
Leopard Gecko potty train themselves! They will choose one corner of their enclosure to use as the bathroom corner. They will ‘go’ in that spot for the rest of their life as long as it is not obstructed.
